Human Computer interaction Certificate – IUPUI
Junior standing – Media Arts and Sciences, Web Designer.
If I really have to take a step back and evaluate myself, I would say I am : Down to earth, Good humored, Erratic, and Sarcastic.
I'm not afraid to spout off movie quotes when the timing is right.
Why am I involved in my work:
I like to program sites that have a user centered approach behind them. My father is a senior now who has difficulty maneuvering through the complex technology of today. I like to think that I design everything I do in a way that would make sense to users like my father.
In my career as a soldier, I've used many badly designed government sites. Interacting with these sites has left me with a frustration for bad user experiences. I know how frustrating it can be for a site to not work the way you want it to. I want to help change the web to be a more fun, less frustrating, and seamless experience for everyone.
I love visual storytelling, so I play a lot of video games, and read a lot of comics. My partner Karl and I are avid moviegoers. I also enjoy lifting weights and going on runs with my pit bull mix, Jackie.
What inspires you:
I am inspired by great writing or storytelling. It's all about creating a situation from your mind, and I find any author or writer who can do that personally endearing. I strive to create fantastic experiences for users that leave them with a sense of awe. The web to me, is a visual tapestry of stories. Like everyone, I have my own. It's my personal passion to add superlative content to the web, and improve the experience behind any interaction users have with my software, no matter what background they come from.
Why do you work with sustainable causes?
The world population is getting larger and larger by the second, and it's all on us to band together to try and undo the environmental stress we naturally incur. Otherwise, we're toast. (Literally if we keep up these co2 levels!)
This is a tough one, as I shift in perspective from time to time. George Lois is an incredibly famous advertiser who rose to fame in the 80's with his brilliant ad campaigns and devotion to creating great advertising for products. He's why I try to continually improve upon myself and my work. Tim Ferris is another. He is an author/podcaster/entrepreneur who spends his time learning the secrets of actors, producers, CEO's, and many more. I strive to live his lifestyle of discipline and achievement.
I operate on the premise that if a product operates well; but isn't designed well, no one will use it! I am a graphic designer by trade, so I specialize making products look and feel right. I tend to focus on user experience, I make sure that everything makes sense to the audience that is viewing the finished product.
A new logo, a WordPress site hosted on our server, and a social media strategy are in the works for this organization focused on getting the necessary environmental assessments for former industrial or commercial properties so they can be cleaned up
Amazing Potato Chip came to our team as an IUPUI project to help our interns build experience and provide excellent service through re-designing their website. We were asked to stick around and help re-design their store-front sign.
